Chief Olusegun Matthew Aremu Obasanjo (born March 5, 1937) is a celebrated Nigerian political and military leader, author, elder statesman, and agriculturist. 

A retired General in the Nigerian Army, he served as the Nigerian Head of State from 1976 to 1979. He served as the first democratically elected president of the Fourth Republic from 1999 to 2007.
