Biography of Nathan Ackerman
Early Life and EducationNathan Ackerman, an American psychiatrist and psychotherapist, was born in 1908 in Bessarabia to David Ackerman, a pharmacist, and Berta Greenberg, a homemaker. In 1912, his family immigrated to the United States, where he completed his primary education in New York City. In 1933, Ackerman graduated from the medical school at Columbia University.
Career and Contributions
After completing his internship at Montefiore Hospital in New York City, Ackerman pursued his residency at the Menninger Clinic and Sanatorium in Topeka, Kansas. He continued working at the Menninger Clinic after his residency ended in 1935. In 1937, Ackerman was appointed as the chief psychiatrist of the Menninger Clinic and la Treating the Troubled Family(1966).
