Hans Silvester, former Rapho reporter, is today one of the last great independent photographers.

From the cover of the first Geo to two advertising campaigns for Hermes, Hans is appreciated for his ability to merge among his subjects. Among his favorite subjects are ecology, the defense of the planet, photographs of animals and simple everyday objects. He is world-renowned for his long-term work with the tribes of southern Ethiopia - the Omo peoples - testifying to their ancestral customs just before civilization catches up with them.

Hans Silvester was born in 1938 and discovered Provence in the early 60s when he came down from his hometown Lörrach in the southern Germany to photograph the Camargue horses that helped make him famous. He continues his work with magnificent photos of the 1960s, all available in a book entitled "C'était Hier" which presents Provence in a magnified way.
