Roald Dahl was born in 1916, Cardiff to Norwegian parents. At a young age, his father passed away, and Roald was sent to boarding schools in England. His childhood years left a lasting impression on Roald, and he later serialised these in his autobiography – Boy.

In this autobiography, he recounts with great relish certain childhood stories such as the “Great Mouse Plot of 1924” – where he led a group of school friends in putting a dead rat in a sweet jar of the ‘mean and loathsome’ women called Mrs Pratchett. After this incident, his mother was shocked to see her young boy canned by the headmaster and Roald was consequently sent away to boarding school. (Repton)
